Black wasteland?
It’s amazing what you find if you kneel down and take a good look at an Icelandic black desert sand. I took this photo on the sands in front of Sólheimajökull glacier a couple of years ago. This plant is less than a centimeter high. You would today have a harder time finding such plants since they’ve had a hard time poking through the ash in that area after the 2010 Eyjafjallajökull eruption just a few kilometers away.
